At the meeting of the Texas United Methodist Historical Society on March 29, 2008,
it was announced that Open Hearts: The First 150 Years of First United Methodist Church
of Denton, Texas by Keith Shelton would receive the 2007 Kate Warnick Award
in the Large Church category. The award will be presented at the 2008 North Texas
Conference in Plano in June 2008.

"I was particularly impressed with the way that stories of conflict were told with drama
and understanding," writes W. J. Bryan III, one of the judges of the competition.
"One of the other judges said that your book was the one he would reach for first
because it was beautiful . . ."
